Its funny... I think about it alot, and every time I do my demeanor saddens..
Its so wonderful to be in this place.. I mean Christ went into the belly of the earth to defeat hell, and it really feels that way, I mean rejection is the cornerstone of the true church..
its really interesting to see a passage of scripture that most people look at and have always viewed one way instead of really looking at it.
John 13:5-10
5. Then He poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.
6. So He came to Simon Peter. He said to Him, "Lord, do You wash my feet?"
7. Jesus answered and said to him, "What I do you do not realize now, but you will understand hereafter."
8. Peter said to Him, "Never shall You wash my feet!" Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me."
9. Simon Peter said to Him, "Lord, then wash not only my feet, but also my hands and my head."
10. Jesus said to him, "He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you."
Its interesting to note that John Wesley wrote one word about this group of verses.. it was Holiness. Jesus always used physical examples to display the deep concepts of God; and with this verse it was the act of washing/serving. The reason He washed the feet was not only to display servanthood but to lay the groundwork into Peter for the revelation that was to come. Jesus told him that one who has been cleaned only needs to wash his feet. Why? because a body once cleaned does not need to be recleaned, only the part that is dirty. Jesus set us free, and in that act "cleaned us" but in this life we will sin as we are still in this corrupt fleshly system. So He made a way for us to walk in holiness by simply allowing others to help us with cleaning our own lives from sin and with cleaning our own feet of sin as we pursue holiness. It is in the steps of Holiness that we become a part of Christ. |
